What if everyone fully appreciated the history, culture, politics and benefits of water distribution and power
generation in western United States?
Water for the West Foundation, a non-profit corporation knows while understanding water and power issues won't
solve all related challenges, it's a great first step. With that in mind, Water for the West began offering grant money
in 2005 to local and regional groups dedicated to creating better understanding among policy makers and the
public in the 17 western states.
Knowing the problems westerners face in conserving and caring for water resources, and educating them on how
to solve them has favorably affected legislation, increased community involvement and brought more young
people into the arena to protect the future.
The Foundation received an outstanding response from local and regional organizations and groups, willing to
produce useful educational programs and tools, like DVDs, web sites and printed materials. Their work has
reached thousands of people and has had a lasting impact on the way law-makers, power companies and the
public conserve and use our water.
Nine grants were awarded in 2005 and all but one of the grants have been completed. Six more grants were
awarded in 2006. Click on a project and see the amazing work and results our grantees have produced. These are
people who understand and appreciate the importance of this life-sustaining natural resource and are passionate
about teaching others to use it wisely.
